When standards drop

Clean Water

This week our presenters look at what happens when safety standards drop due to industry self-regulation and a cosy relationship with government environmental agencies. The team visit the U.S. to speak with people at the site of an oil pipeline disaster that saw 100 sq kilometres of farming land and coastline destroyed by escaping oil; the owners of the land have been minimally compensated for clean up costs but not for the damage the accident has continued to wreak on wildlife, livestock and the land itself. Will this incident push government to make changes and pressure companies into taking greater care? Tune in to find out.
